RETIRO

The History

Retiro is one of the neighborhoods that gave Buenos Aires its controversial name of "The Paris of South America".

In some areas, you can still find the spectacular French-influenced manors of the ultra-wealthy of Argentina's golden age. These houses tell a story of grandeur, politics, drama and romance that will transport you back in time.

After this type of housing fell out of fashion in the 1930s, the area became one of the centric places for comercial and administrative offices.

From Retiro to... literally anywhere

Retiro is one of the main gateways into Argentina: here you'll find the port, the cruise terminal and one of the largest train station complexes in the country.

Two of the train stations have an immense architectural value and they are worth a visit themselves. If you wish to head to the northern parts and suburbs of Buenos Aires (like Belgrano, Tigre or San Isidro) this is where the journey starts.
